The Archive - Construction Begins

I'm gonna surround myself in wood. It's gonna be like a log cabin. 'Cuz I *need* wood around me. Wood, Jerry... Wood

The Archive - Construction Begins

Like a lot of people in 2020, I started looking for an outlet since I suddenly started spending a lot of time at home. This was the perfect time to get back into model railroading, which after moving house had laid dormant for a while until I figured out what I wanted to build.

I started building a small shelf layout indoors, which allowed me to do some switching and operations in a small space, and get something up and running quickly.

However thoughts turned to the next build. What was I wanting get out of the railroad? and what space did I have to play with?

After looking at options such as the garage and the roof cavity (being 6ft 4 I'm glad this didn't make the cut) I settled on a shed in an unused corner of the backyard.

The actual layout planning also began at this time, and went through several iterations before something was settled on.

Some photos below of the foundations and shed going in. You can also see the initial lining of the shed being initially setup as well.

Overall this process took about 8 months from construction start till all lining completed, ready for the initial benchwork.
